London copy bound in half sheep, with paper over boards marbled in brown curl pattern. Blind decorative borders at leather edges. Spine divided into panels by blind double fillets. Red morocco lettering-piece with gilt double fillets and title: ROUSSEAU'S / BOTANY / TRANS. / T. MARTYN. Gilt date 1802 at base of spine, and gilt edition statement at mid-spine. Speckled edges.
Wisley copy recased in quarter calf, with brown cloth over boards and gilt date 1802 at base of spine. Much of original spine retained: brown calf, with four pairs of raised bands; gilt decorations in top and bottom compartments; gilt title: LETTERS / ON / BOTANY // ROUSSEAU // MARTYN'S / ILLUSTRATIONS. Red speckled edges; top-edge stained. Endpapers with modern oil-marbling in feather pattern.
